We were originally intending to install just a circulation pump, which would allow hot water in our farthest bathroom in a few seconds instead of minutes, but since one was offered and installed with the solar unit, it worked out well for us.

During cloudy/gray days -with the power off, it takes approximately 3 1/2 days to use up all the hot water in the tank. This reserve is built in even before you would have to power up the back-up electric element... very appealing!
